Yalumba The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2006

The Reserve represents the very best twenty barrels of red wine from the cellars of Yalumba and is only made in exceptional vintages. This Yalumba The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2006 is an exceptional vintage blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Shiraz. Distinctively intense and full-bodied, it was sourced from plantings dating back to 1919 and matured for 22 months in 47% new French and Hungarian oak. 

The structure of the Cabernet combines with the richness of Shiraz magnificently delivering beautiful velvety textured fruit flavours of ripe blackcurrants over blackberry and liquorice with a background of spicy cedar, subtle black olive and cigar box. Solidly built but fine grained tannins provide an excellent framework. Outstanding depth of colour displaying an inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue.

"Deep red colour with a slight purple tinge. The aromas are of dark cherry and raspberry, with a tinge of herbs and mercifully it's not overtly oaky. The wine is very full-bodied and robust, with tannin aplenty and considerable complexity. It has a touch of elegance and very good length. The wine is full-bodied and forceful with a lot of power. The veritable iron fist in the velvet glove. Rich and dense. Long-term cellaring indicated. An outstanding wine. Huon Hooke 95 Points"
