Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Wynns Coonawarra Estate was founded by pioneer John Riddoch who planted vineyards in 1891, recognising the potential of the rich, red terra rossa soil and the long ripening season of Coonawarra's cool southerly climate.

First made in 1982, the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was conceived as a flagship wine for Wynns. John Riddoch himself was a true visionary. Amongst his many achievements are the building of the Wynns Gabled winery and the establishment of Coonawarra Fruit Colony.

John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is made in small quantities from the best available fruit grown on the estate's extensive Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in the heart of the terra rossa soil. It has become a definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, made only in years when grapes of extraordinarily high quality are available, using less than one percent of the top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

 A potent, rich, complex, full-bodied Cabernet that has a signature as indelible as that of Grange. Cassis/blackcurrant fruit, with touches of earth, tar and licorice, pours in a rush along the palate, not held up by oak or tannins, both subsumed into the fabric of the wine. 97 points, James Halliday Wine Companion.

Inky deep crimson. Complex and seductive dark cherry, blackcurrant aromas with roasted chestnut, vanilla, herb garden notes. Richly flavoured, plush velvety textured wine with deep set dark cherry, cassis, dark chocolate flavours, fine looseknit plentiful grainy tannins and roasted chestnut, mocha oak. Finishes chocolaty and sinuously long. Highly concentrated and powerful, yet generous and supple with attractive mineral length. Still elemental but beautifully balanced. 96 Points Andrew Caillard.
