St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2012
St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2012
Established by the Lindner family in 1944, St Hallett has established themselves as the Masters of Barossa Shiraz, and one of the most admired Australian wine brands. With roots firmly planted in the rich Barossa soils, St Hallett continue the legacy of crafting exceptional wines from a tapestry of vineyards throughout Barossa Valley and Eden Valley that showcase the geological, geographical and climatic diversity of the region.
Since its inception in 1980, the focus for Old Block has been to showcase the rare and ancient vines of the Barossa. To qualify for Old Block Shiraz, vineyards must be planted on their own rootstock and be older than 40 years of age. These ancient vines produce small crop levels, resulting in seamless wines of complexity and longevity.
"The average age of the vines is 88 years, and are both Barossa Valley and Eden Valley; standard static fermentation approach with pumpovers, but varied for each parcel, matured in a mix of new and used French oak. The colour is perfect, the medium-bodied palate exquisitely balanced and proportioned, red and black fruits both on parade; it has an almost airy grace to the way it moves along the palate to a lingering finish.
