Peter Lehmann "Very Special Vineyard" 3 bottle pack.
Over the past decades, some special pockets of land have consistently stood out to the winemakers for their quality and individual character, Peter Lehmann Wines draws on a network of over 140 growers across the Barossa to produce wines of great distinction. Fruit from these vineyards was set aside, and made in small batches to highlight this character as single vineyard wines under the name “VSV” – Very Special Vineyards.
Only made in exceptional years.
2009 - "Full, dark, black-garnet colour, deep and dense. The nose is voluminous with intensely packed aromas that blossom with layers of ripe black and red fruits, plums, Asian spices and lifted nutty and vanilla-like and complex oak that unfolds in waves. Medium-full bodied, sweetly vibrant and bright fruit flavours of black berries, plums and liquorice are enriched and lifted with aromatic, cedary, spicy oak. The mouthfeel has great energy with beautiful acidity providing tension, and refined tannin-extraction, lending a degree of elegance, if not finesse. The tightness and concentrated line carry through to a long finish. This is a classical, old-vine Barossa Shiraz with aromatic oaking that will age 10+ years easily. Fruit from the ‘Schrapel’ vineyard, Ebenezer, established in 1885, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak hogsheads. 600 cases made. 19.0-/20 Raymond Chan"
2010 - "Strong, full red-purple; from vines owned by the Schrapel family, whose forebears planted them in 1885. The wine spent 12 months in French oak, which provides a perfect frame for the luscious berry and cherry fruit of the medium-bodied palate. Only 685 dozen made of this seriously lovely wine." 2014- "It defies conventional thinking, but this wine from 129yo vines is less powerful than Carey (17yo) and Valley View Road (15yo) vines. But it's the most elegant, and I'm bemused by the pricing, this the bargain. Supple red and black fruits have just the right amount of French oak back-up, and the svelte tannins are all-important in the creation of the wine." James Halliday 97 Points
