Lost Penny Little Mischeif Rose’ 2022
Lost Penny Little Mischeif Rose’ 2022
Nick and Carol Riebke are extremely proud and excited to join together as a family to produce their very own premium Barossa wines. All from the same family blocks in Ebenezer, Barossa Valley, that their family has worked since the late 1800s. But, the story of Lost Penny Wines has deep roots.
It began five generations ago, after their ancestors came to the Barossa to escape religious persecution in Germany. They brought with them Shiraz cuttings on the ship, with the hope of beginning a new life. For Nick and Carol their combined knowledge, passion, family heritage and dedication to preserving Barossa winemaking traditions have all been poured into Lost Penny Wines.
As we have grown to like the Montepulciano ‘Monty’, we thought it would be fun to make a Rose’ out of it. But we also wanted to use our other favourite grape variety – Grenache. These two varieties work so well together, we decided to make our first Rose’. The Little Mischief Rose’ is not only the perfect wine to enjoy on a summer’s day, but but any time of the year.
The 2022 vintage growing season was average. The 2021 winter was the wettest recorded since 1996. October and November saw rainfall totals above average. Together with a rainfall event in February assisted in refreshing up the vines leading into harvest. This vintage was filled with some highs and lows for the other growers affected by hail which we felt deeply for.
Colour: light bright pink
Nose: Watermelon, light strawberry and rose water.
Palate: A fine and elegant structure with some crispness.
58% Montepulciano and 42% Grenache gives this wine a lot of interest. A little residual sugar to give the palate some roundness and fullness with a crisp finish. This wine is ideal for the warmer months but has a fullness which can be enjoyed in the winter by a warm fire.
