Lost Penny Ink Master Durif 2021
Lost Penny Ink Master Durif 2021
Nick and Carol Riebke are extremely proud and excited to join together as a family to produce their very own premium Barossa wines. All from the same family blocks in Ebenezer, Barossa Valley, that their family has worked since the late 1800s. But, the story of Lost Penny Wines has deep roots.
It began five generations ago, after their ancestors came to the Barossa to escape religious persecution in Germany. They brought with them Shiraz cuttings on the ship, with the hope of beginning a new life. For Nick and Carol their combined knowledge, passion, family heritage and dedication to preserving Barossa winemaking traditions have all been poured into Lost Penny Wines.
One of the most striking grape varieties for colour. When picked, it just drips an intense red colour, unlike any other variety we have on the property. This intensity continues throughout the process, giving the Durif such a deep black ink-like colour, making it the master of red wines for colour in our range, therefore only fitting to call it ‘Ink Master’.
Following two particularly dry seasons, our figures were crossed that the 2021 vintage would be much kinder. Conditions through summer were relatively mild with cool mornings and maximum temperatures below 30°C for majority of January provided optimal ripening conditions. The quality was exceptional with reds having intense, rich, and balanced flavours and colours. matured in seasoned French oak barrel for 12 months.
Colour: Dark Ink red with purple hue
Nose: Dark Berries, plum and dark chocolate.
Palate: A firm texture and mouth fill together with sweet dark berries.
The Ink Master Durif is an amazing wine for colour and flavours which makes it idea for winter nights by the fire or with a hearty steak.
