2010 Katnook Prodigy Shiraz

Prodigy Shiraz is crafted from the vintages where superior quality is achieved. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, it is a seamless blend of intense fruit and extended oak maturation.  The first vintage of this wine was in 1997 - it won Australia's most prestigious trophy, the Jimmy Watson.  Prodigy is included in the Langton's Classification in the 'excellent' section.

2010 Coonawarra vintage, one of the earliest, but for being amongst the best. Near ideal weather conditions leading up to harvest of below average rainfall and above average temperatures were conducive to an early start. Prodigy is crafted from small parcels of grapes harvested from sites that have consistently produced fruit of outstanding depth of fruit flavour, excellent colour and firm tannin structures. A richly layered palate structure with generous fruit, oak and maturation flavours seamlessly combined.

As ever, a careful selection of the best parcels of estate grapes; the wine spent 25 months in equal parts of French and American barriques (95%). It's in unmistakable Prodigy style, oak prominent, but there is also supple plum, cherry and licorice fruit of quite exceptional length, making this the best Prodigy since 02.

2010 Katnook Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon

Odyssey defines quintessential Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from the region's distinctive terra rossa soils and crafted with the luxury of great attention to detail. It will cellar gracefully for 15+ years from vintage.

2010 Coonawarra vintage will be remembered not only as one of the earliest, but for being amongst the best. The combination of a warm spring and warmer, drier conditions during veraison lead to harvest taking place almost two weeks earlier than usual. Fruit was harvested at optimum maturity. The wines show good fruit aromatics, wonderful depth of flavours, excellent colour with soft tannins. This Cabernet Sauvignon features the excellent colour, rich fruit and substantial palate structure expected of the vintage.

A wine with ripe, rich fruit combined with complex oak and barrel matured flavours. Odyssey is highly awarded and is one of 53 wines listed in the ‘Outstanding’ category of the Langton’s VI, Classification of Australian Wine.

A selection of grapes from the best blocks, matured in oak barriques for 28 months (55% new, mostly French). A particularly elegant wine, one of the best-balanced Odysseys for some years, with supple cassis, earth, mint and black olive cradled by fine quality oak, and protected by high quality cork (the Spanish owner of Freixinet having friends in the right places). This is an unequivocally good release. It’s assertive but balanced. Dark berries, bay leaves, tobacco, chocolate and coffee grounds. It’s aromatic, full-bodied, powerful and long. It drinks well now, because it feels fresh and gorgeously well proportioned. But it’s also strung with tannin and generally set up to age both gracefully and well. 95 Points, Campbell Mattinson.
