House of Arras E.J. Carr Late Disgorged 2006
In 1988, Ed Carr embarked on a journey.
He was dedicated to craft exceptional Australian sparkling wine, equal to the world’s best. And by 1995, House of Arras was founded - the name ‘Arras’ means ‘rich tapestry’. Today, House of Arras is Australia’s most awarded sparkling wine brand with an unparalleled reputation of producing world-class Australian sparkling wines of exceptional age.
This label was first released with the 1998 vintage and the 2006 is now the 9th consecutive Late disgorged vintage to go to market. The style is aged for a remarkable minimum of 10 years on lees and remains a benchmark of the mature release Tasmanian sparkling wine style. An inviting palate with a rich melange of flavours including nougat, desiccated lemon, honeycomb, alluring spices and sauteed field mushroom. An exquisite structure built around a low dosage that allows all the characters to be fully exposed and enjoyed. The rich development is beautifully balanced with the structural elegance and natural acid line.
A mature and complex style expressing all the attributes of the noble sparkling grape varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot noir grown in pristine cold climate vineyards throughout Tasmania and meticulous winemaking. This wine was aged on lees in tirage for 14 years developing an intensity of secondary characters recognised in the world's finest cuvees.
“Extraordinary: still so fresh and balanced, minerally, laser-like acidity; infinite length, apple, pear, brioche and honey coexistence seems impossible, but it’s not, nor is its ability to stare down Champagne. 67/33% chardonnay and pinot noir from Derwent Valley and the East Coast. Spent 14 years on lees, the dosage only 2.6g/l. Disgorged March ’21.” – 99 Points & Top 100 Wines of 2021 James Halliday
