Dalwhinnie "The Eagle" Shiraz 2012
Dalwhinnie "The Eagle" Shiraz 2012
Dalwhinnie is located near the small village of Moonambel in the heart of the Pyrenees region of western Victoria, Australia and is a super-premium producer of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
At 595 meters above sea level, Dalwhinnie is the highest and most remote of the Pyrenees district vineyards. Surrounded and sheltered by the highest range, this unique bowl of vines is located in a naturally undulating trough which falls away from the hills, forming an Amphitheatre nestled into the ranges. Dalwhinnie has been growing grapes for nearly 50 years and is now a fully mature vineyard, producing ultra-premium wines that are distinctive, elegant and reflect the benefit of a dry-grown vineyard.
The fruit for the Eagle Series has been sourced from the small 1.2 hectare cellar door vineyard planted in 1977. The hilly, well drained soils and south easterly aspect produces some of the most stylish and complex fruit in the country. The fruit character is unique in that it displays a very interesting olive oil and bramble fruit characteristic, which is fascinating.
"From the block always known as The Eagle, planted in ’77, and still considered to be the best. Vivid, deep crimson-purple, it absolutely floods the senses with its glorious silk and velvet texture, its array of black fruits of every description, its superb tannin structure, and its low alcohol leaving the mouth as fresh as a spring day. A truly great wine. 98 Points James Halliday"
