Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Bowen Estate vineyards occupy 33 hectares of prime terra rossa soil. Planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. Since the purchase in 1972 of our first block of land, hand pruning has always been part of Bowen Estate’s uniqueness. Our arch cane trellis system introduced in 1989 has been integral to our style of wine.
In the vineyard the Cabernet Sauvignon vines are pruned by hand, again using the arched cane method as for Shiraz. The grapes are machine harvested. This wine, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, barrel aged in French and Russian oak barriques.
Recently well regarded in a major national Cabernet Challenge, this is old school Coonawarra magic that ties together a fulfilling set of regional and varietal highlights, the typical mint, and eucalyptus notes encouragingly subtle. The savoury elements pick up black olive paste to add layers of gastronomic interest, and then the power of the fruit takes over, driven by a sticky tannin feel. – Tony Love (10/01/2017 –THE HERALD SUN – Wine)
