"Ata Rangi was a small, stony sheep paddock when Clive bought it with a wad of cash from the sale of his herd of cows back in 1980. His farming mates thought he was mad; grapes were unheard of in the region. But Clive knew the area well... More than three decades later - backed by a string of awards and accolades - Ata Rangi is well established in 25 international markets and has an enviable reputation as one of the New World's most respected Pinot Noir producers." - Ata Rangi

‘A significant Pinot Noir that displays immense quality, depth and completeness... Very complex indeed with exotic spices, meaty charcuterie and game meats. A fabulous array of different cherry fruit characters, hints of citrus zest and saffron plus some foresty bracken to add. The palate has immense energy and depth yet treads lightly on balanced structure and even shape, the tannins wind out and around supple flesh, gathering together and fanning at the finish, the acidity is bright throughout and the finish holds long. A masterpiece. Commanding and seductive Pinot Noir at its finest.’ 98-99 points, Nick Stock, jamessuckling.com

Some are saying 2013 was the best vintage in Martinborough in a decade. Ata Rangi winemaker Helen Masters describes it as pretty much a perfect vintage, with dramatic cool nights to retain acidity at the end of the season, creating a tension between concentration and length. This permitted her the scope to ferment with 30% of whole bunches, double the highest level of recent years. It holds this gracefully, creating a beautifully fragrant and pure red cherry and berry fruits style with wonderfully pretty violets, rose-hip and elegantly integrated spice. Impeccably fine, silky tannin structure draws out a finish of brilliant line and length. A Martinborough Pinot Noir of true grand cru calibre, and one of the greatest Ata Rangis in the 35 year history of this estate. 97 points, Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste Weekly.
